Charlotte’s Consolidated Construction Company and Edward Dilworth Latta planned the Dilworth neighborhood located just south of the City as a mix-income neighborhood in 1891. This 442 acres suburb was connected to Charlotte’s Center City, which is only 10 minutes away, by an electric streetcar system. The Olmsted brothers who also designed New York’s Central Park designed the Dilworth Neighborhood’s expansion, which was done in 1911. Restaurants, coffee shops, grocery stores and an awesome health food store, beautiful recreational parks and much more, encompass the neighborhood. Most of Dilworth neighborhoods consist of bungalow style houses with front porches and beautiful tree lined streets.
